About the Perth Amboy Historical Society

The Perth Amboy Historical Society Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving, documenting, and promoting the rich and diverse history of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Founded to celebrate our City's pivotal role in American history from its colonial beginnings and industrial innovation to its vibrant cultural heritage, the Society works to ensure that Perth Amboy’s stories, landmarks, and legacies are never forgotten.
Â
Through research, preservation initiatives, educational programs, and community partnerships, we seek to deepen public understanding of our shared past and to inspire pride in our historic City. By supporting restoration projects, hosting public lectures and exhibits, and encouraging heritage tourism, the Society connects residents and visitors alike to the people, places, and events that shaped Perth Amboy and the nation.

Together, we work to safeguard Perth Amboy’s historic character for future generations, honoring the past, enriching the present, and building a stronger future rooted in history.

Our Heritage
Perth Amboy’s story spans centuries. From the Lenape people who first inhabited the region to its rise as a colonial capital, bustling port, center of industry, and home to generations of immigrants, the city has played a remarkable role in the history of New Jersey and the nation.
That heritage lives on in our historic buildings, waterfront, neighborhoods, cultural traditions, and the stories of the people who have called Perth Amboy home.
Â
The Perth Amboy Historical Society works to celebrate this shared legacy, preserve the places and stories that define our community, and ensure they remain meaningful and accessible for generations to come.
"Our history is more than our past, it is part of who we are today."
